The program is the central part of any WordCamp. Typically, as a conference, WordCamp features different talks, panels, and workshops woven around WordPress. Sometimes, the conference is designed to focus on a specific subject, niche, or area.
SiteSaga is an official media partner of WordCamp Kathmandu 2026, happening on September 18 and 19 at Alice Receptions, Kathmandu, Nepal.
So, we interviewed Sakar Upadhyaya Khatiwada, a member of the Program Team, who is responsible for designing the conference’s program (selecting the sessions, speakers, and workshops). We asked him about the theme and highlights of this year’s program and more.

Personally, I have known Sakar for more than a decade through WordPress Kathmandu community events. From our different interactions, I know him as a very professional and talented techie who carries himself with humility.

Inside WordCamp Kathmandu 2026’s Program – Interview with Sakar Upadhyaya Khatiwada
1. Welcome! To kick things off, please briefly introduce yourself and the Program Team, and tell us about your team’s role in organizing WordCamp Kathmandu 2026.
Hi there! I’m Sakar. My journey with building for the web started back in 2013. Since then, I’ve been deeply involved in nurturing our local tech community—from organizing meetups to sharing ideas on stage at events like PHP Meetups and WordPress Campus Connect.
This year, I’m thrilled to be part of our four-person Program Team. Alongside our lead, Pratik Shrestha, and our talented colleagues Rajan Lama and Anil Basnet—who are bringing their expertise to our contributor tracks—we curate your WordCamp experience.
Our mission is to find the most inspiring voices and ensure our stage represents a beautiful mosaic of perspectives.
From the moment we open the call for presenters to the final technical rehearsal, we’re working to ensure every attendee leaves feeling motivated, seen, and equipped with fresh knowledge to contribute to the global WordPress ecosystem.
2. What is the main vision behind curating the program for WordCamp Kathmandu 2026, and what is the current status of the schedule-building process?
This year, we’re diving deep into the world of intelligent automation, exploring how it’s transforming design and streamlining development workflows.
We aren’t just looking at the “now,” but also tracing the journey of how these technologies evolved.
Beyond the automated horizon, we’re tackling vital themes like scaling your business, navigating licensing, and knowing eCommerce payments.
What makes this year truly special is our shift toward interactive, hands-on labs where you can get your hands dirty and learn by doing.
Our tentative lineup is already live, and while we’re putting the finishing touches on the final schedule, the core of this incredible learning journey is ready and waiting for you!
3. Choosing the right lineup is always a challenge. What were the primary criteria for selecting this year’s speakers, and how did you balance technical deep dives with accessible content for beginners?
We’ve taken a fresh approach this year by moving away from parallel tracks for the main conference. This allows us to create a unified, shared experience where every presentation is carefully chosen to be inclusive.
Whether you’re just starting your digital journey or you’re a seasoned professional, there’s a seat at the table for you. Our immersive labs ensure that even the most technical concepts remain accessible through practical, guided application.
4. Without going through every session, what are some of the major topics and themes attendees will encounter across this year’s presentations?
You can look forward to exploring AI workflow in design, the nuances of software licensing, global eCommerce payments, and technical and SEO scaling. We’ll also be venturing into the future of agent-based workflows, sales strategies, and the evolving landscape of WordPress education programs.
5. Fast-moving trends like AI, cybersecurity, and AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) are reshaping web development. How did you incorporate these global shifts into the sessions, and what practical value will they bring to attendees?
We’ve prioritized real-world storytelling over abstract theory. Through our hands-on labs, you’ll get to experience how modern digital agents can actually solve problems in your daily work.
Plus, our featured panel will bring together established business leaders from across Nepal to discuss how organizations can thoughtfully adopt these shifts, turning global trends into local opportunities.
6. Local WordCamps attract a lot of students and early-career attendees. Beyond entry-level sessions, what specific tracks or learning paths are designed to help them launch digital careers?
Absolutely! We have dedicated sessions designed to help newcomers launch their very first site using modern site-building tools. Students will love our practical labs on running eCommerce platforms with the help of smart automation.
To top it off, we have an incredibly inspiring session from a 16-year-old developer who built a platform serving millions—it’s the perfect roadmap for anyone looking to kickstart their career.
7. Are there any particular keynote sessions or panel discussions, or presentations that you believe will spark interesting conversations among attendees?
Our flagship panel on organizational transformation is definitely going to be a highlight—it’s where the most insightful conversations happen.
I’d also highly recommend catching Diana’s insights on AI-assisted design workflow and Jerico’s masterclass on scaling. And in a world where building is easy but standing out is hard, Aashutosh’s session on sales strategy is one you simply can’t miss!
8. What do you think makes the WordCamp Kathmandu 2026 program different from previous years?
The energy this year is much more focused. By moving to a single-track format and leaning heavily into interactive workshops and community discussions, we’re creating a more intimate and impactful environment than ever before.
9. Beyond the presentations themselves, what non-session elements or activities should attendees look forward to during the conference?
Come for the knowledge, but stay for the community!
Beyond the stage, you’ll find a hall full of unique sponsor goodies, endless networking opportunities, and the chance to forge partnerships that could last a lifetime.
10. For anyone still deciding whether to attend, what would be your ultimate elevator pitch for WordCamp Kathmandu 2026?
If you want to be at the heart of where technology meets community, this is it. Come learn, build, and discover how intelligent automation is changing our world. Don’t just watch the future happen—be a part of the team that builds it!
See You All at WordCamp Kathmandu 2026!
As Sakar beautifully puts it, WordCamps are where “the heart of where technology meets community”. It’s where the open-source web is built together by volunteers. It’s where people like you and me come together to “democratize publishing”.
So, we’re more than excited to be at WordCamp Kathmandu 2026. And look forward to meeting you all.
